With a population of 2.1 million Slovenia on its own does not offer enough market opportunities for many Swiss companies which are more export-oriented. But the strengths of the country only really become apparent once the good are in the country.
For one, Slovenia is the hub for the southern countries in the whole Western Balkan region, virtually identical to the CEFTA free trade zone (Central European Free Trade Agreement). The CEFTA region has a total of 30 million inhabitants. For another, as an EU member state, Slovenia is a sensible supplier base, particularly when it comes to demanding production steps which Swiss companies are interested in outsourcing for cost reasons.
